So why such a weird headline? We paused quite a while ago on the issue of chronic fatigues. And while it's utmost important to learn to alleviate the issues of chronic fatigue as well, it seems even more pertinent to step up on the healing of joint pains that we seem to encounter during these times of perhaps a lot of changes, ideas, maybe some wars and lots of monetary and hierarchical issues and lots of instability and imbalance.
Joint pains, in medicine, we often name them "arthritis". So, arthritis in generilized form is a disease grop of the articular tissues of the joints. Technically, in medical knowledge, we know to sepparate them into osteorthritis (more of a mechanical cause of the joint pain), bacterial arthritis (do tue overgrowth of certain pathological bacterias in the joint), Lyme arthritis (develops through a systemic reaction after a tickbite), gonococcal arthrisis (caused by N. gonorrhea and often spread through sexual exposure), syphilitic arthritis, tubercualr arthiris, reactive arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and many others.
In essence, for a person experiencing many joint pain-related issues, at the time of worsening of symptoms, it doesn't really matter for them all too much, which kind of diagnosis and which type of code they receive for their symptoms and disease. In very many cases, the treatment of the joint pains are quite similar in essence, although the medically classified etiology and pathology might differ to a large extent. You can read pages and pages about different subgroups of arthritis etiology and pathology, but all in all....it's kind of once you have some joint pains and carry the diagnosis, the best you can do going into the medicine field, is to just alleviate the symptoms and keep the joint pains from worsening. Although, this too, seems to be a nice idea. How may it be so that as simple as systemic joint pain disease have no hopes of actually getting to an initial stage of health?
Well, let's try to build into healing of the situation and go deeper into East
According to Ayurvedic way of knowledge, in all cases of arthritis, despite a tad of different etiology measured by the anatomical or biochemical process, is derives from systemic vata imbalance. Therefore, people with vata consitution or vata vikuti are more prone to have arthritis.
In the pathologic way, the first stage to developing joint pains is actually systemic vata accumulation in the colon. Lots of vata essence in the colon provokes (prakopa) a certain chain of pathologic reactions and growth in the colon, the causing vata accumulation to spread (prasara).
In that manner, abundance of vata is actually residing outside the body and eventually finally find it's space in the tissues (dhatus).
One of the easiest targets for the overgrowth of vata from outside the body to enter the body, is the asthi dhatu, the synovil fluid of the joint).
This then causes some stiffness, swelling of the joints and pain. The pain can be intermittent in nature, a bit reactive, or felt at first just during certain activities, seasonal changes or types of positions. That kind of development is often accompanied with cracking and popping of the joins, is mostly non-inflammatory in nature. Excessive dryness is one developer of these kind of pains.
Another pathology is similar in the first stage, but when vata enters the joint tissue, it actually pushes the pitta into the joins and the pain is accompanied with hotter temperature and swelling with redness in the joins and is more of a right-away inflammatory disorder. It is called vata pushing pitta type of join pain and people with a pitta-vata constitution or pitta type with extensive vata vikruti may be in more risk of that kind of joint pain.
It actually seems that we are loosing the essence of knowing joint healing solutions, which is sad.
Although many new medical technologies are arising, such as for example joint cartilage cell planations in case of ostearthritis (the new implanted cell will stimulate cartilage restoration) or electrica stimulation of cartilages or monoclonal antibodies for severe cases of rheumatoidarthritis etcetc the whole field tend to loose the wisdom and essence of being able to actually grow and regrow your own cells, understanding the symptoms thoroughly and take learning from that.
Now, there are many solutions to an issue as that.
Keeping in mind that joint pain basis is the accumulation of vata in essence. One may argue that vata vikruti and vata-consitutional diseases in nowadays medicine is the less understood ailments and in some ways, perhaps even the most feared and therefor, the most neglected ones.
The issue for example with rheumatoidarthritis is, that once the disease have already show itself, it is a fifth or six stage of that kind of vitiation already. Although we now, that the initiative was the colon, the body rebalancing from that stage has to be very sensible as just directly cleansing the colon in the fifth stage of disease might give a big backfiring and acute complications.
In the book written by Vasant Lad, for example, it is suggested to apply vishagarbha tailam for first retracing the specific toxins (ama) from the connective tissue. Most of it will move back into the digestive tract. The next stage would be mahanarayana tailam. After these stages have been succesfully gone through, no panchakarma-related procedures should be tried out. After these stages only, the balancing of digestion can start. Now, again, this is what a proffesional ayurvedic doctor would possibly do so it is not a suggestion to experiment on ourself
Now, specific solutions? By law, difficult to give any...a very candid talk, indeed, and not a direct medical advice, more of a holistic one. There are writings of "gin raisins" e.g putting raisins into a gin solution, long story, but should alleviate the joint pains internally (uff maybe one would use juniper berries instead of alcohol since that is what is used in gin), topical aplications to the joins with different nutritious solutions (supercareful about that though), specific acceptance and allowance movements such as Tai Chi and Qi Cong, for example (king kong? Ki kong? ahh, wrist hurts!). Adapting of the inflammatory response is important. Arguably, perhaps...it can be done with ingesting more of the Omega-3 fatty acids. Seeds... This squirrel here always gets some prophylactic treatment.
In terms of joint pains, a healer or a self-healer needs to start understanding a few terms
Joint pains start from vata accumulation (air, space and ether) and not some inflammatory Pitta accumulation (fire, water)
In the stages of accumulation, provoking and spreading of vata (in terms of joint pain), one can hypothesize, that vata vikruti collected outside the body can be viewed also as a viral or infectious state of that person or this persons dosha. The person might experience a sense of being ungrounded, an experience of senseless or wisdomless reactivity from other people, in some cases, indifference to type of pains etc
Vata vikruti can be seen as a risk factor for vata-related diseases, but also a a change to improve the overall-well-being of the person. In the vata aggravation stage, if fear is removed, the person might experience higher wisdom and understanding of environmental entidures, may practice a clearer form of truth-related communication and develop enthusiasm for better forms of healing
In many or most cases, the joint paints show themselves in later stage of life (perhaps with the exclusion of juvenile arthitis and some autoimmune conditions such as lupus and psoriais, which can be escorted by joint pains as well). The reason is not that vata accumulation start in late phase of life, but that the vata vikruti takes longer time to show itself in such a material format.
Vata vikruti at the provocation stages of diseased actually needs nourishment, support, warmth, time and patience from other people
P.S Apologies for not formatting the used resources correctly this time, will attempt to do better next time
Most of the basis was taken from the
Ayurvedic Perspectives on Selected Pathologies by. Dr. Vasant D. Lad 3rd Ed, 2018.
And from some other articles, medical books and experiences from here and there
Hope you have enjoyed this post! And also, any feedback or further literature appreciated.
P.S.S Hey, just received a cool news. There's a small nutrition schooling in september. for sensitives Hope there will be time and I will have the allowance to go. I will just push "publish" now....even if I loose it all
Take care, be well!
